Ke$ha’s Daddy Secret
March 3rd, 2010 ♥ Posted by ♥ Posted in Articles, Interviews

Pop wild child Ke$ha has revealed how she tried tracking down her father – only to be left down and out in Los Angeles.

America’s hottest new rock chick has never met her dad and gave up any interest in finding him after a trip to the City of Angels proved to be a dead end.

Ke$ha – who has been at No1 in the US since the new year with Tik Tok – insists she wouldn’t be too thrilled if he turned up out of the blue. The 23-year-old said: “I made my way out to LA and stayed with this guy I thought could be my dad, but he’s not.

“At least I don’t think he is. There is a slim chance he is my father. I got off the airplane to meet him and immediately I was like, no way.”

Ke$ha joined the millions of other hopefuls looking to find fame in LA but became homeless in the process.

She said: “After I decided he wasn’t my dad, I lived in my car for a bit until I could find an apartment. I ended up doing background vocals for Paris Hilton to pay for an apartment.”

Ke$ha claims even her mum – Nashville songwriter Rose Sebart – doesn’t know who her dad is. She added: “I never felt anything was missing without a father because my mom is so cool. My mom doesn’t know who my father is. She was just trying to getpregnant.

“She was married before I was born and had split up with him, then decided she wanted another baby and did what she needed to do.

“Once that mission was accomplished she was like, whatever. She didn’t want any guy around to tell her what to do.”

Ke$ha, who is making waves with her debut album Animal and released new single Blah Blah Blah this week, is one of a wave of sassy female singer-songwriters dominating the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

But her success was far from overnight. As a child, she wrote songs with her mother and Ke$ha helped out Britney Spears, Flo Rida and Miley Cyrus with songwriting and vocal duties before making it in her own right.

She said: “I was homeless but I would sing on demos and get waitressing jobs and check IDs at a club until they discovered I was 17.

“I had odd jobs. I was a telemarketer for two days, which meant calling people, being hung up on a lot and being yelled at. I was trying to get them to refinance loans. I hated it. I had no idea what I was doing and lasted two days.

“I was trying to make some dollars to pay the rent. There were points when I was really broke.

“The low points would be stealing food and selling clothes to make money for food. But even then, I would get the subway in LA, which is disgusting and there were homeless people exposing themselves. I’d have to turn a blind eye.

“I always found humour in everything, which I think is an important quality.

“It’s better for your soul. It helped to make it easier. If you listen to my record, you can hear that I am saying, ‘We’re broke but who cares?’ It’s not like a starving artist wallowing in self pity. I’m broke but I’m still f***ing fantastic.”

At one stage, she broke into Prince’s home in the hope that he would listen to a demo of her songs. She also threw up in Paris Hilton’s toilet after partying too hard following her backing vocal duties on the socialite’s debut album Paris.

It was at her lowest ebb that Ke$ha turned to shoplifting food and selling her clothes to get by. She said: “I’m not saying everybody should go steal stuff but I did it out of necessity because I needed to eat.

“I’d go to the dollar store. It would have been a bit of a nightmare if I had been caught and arrested. There are so many times I’ve come close to being arrested.

“Breaking into Prince’s house was one time. Another time I got pulled over. I had two fake IDs, no real ID.

“I was driving my dead grandad’s car and had rolled through a stop sign. My tail light was out. My registration was expired.

“I had so many clothes in my car they thought I was living out of my car, which is illegal. I was. They found a gun holster which I used to wear onstage because I thought it looked cool. I didn’t have a gun.

“But they were convinced I was holding people up. Luckily, I managed to charm them to get out of it. Thank God.”

She added: “The police in LA can be real scumbags. One police officer pulled me over because he wanted to get my phone number and when I wouldn’t give it to him, he gave me a ticket.

“I had to go to court and fight it. I reported it because people like him shouldn’t get away with that. I didn’t have to pay the ticket so that was fine.”

ke$ha feels she has no need for a father figure and boyfriends are off limits too.

She said: “If you listen to my record, you’ll know I have recently been cheated on. I wouldn’t think of being with anyone else and if I was, he would have to be a real bad-ass. If he is the second coming, I’ll make some time.

“I think I would have fallen really hard for late-60s Jagger. He was so fantastic. I would probably have been enamoured by the entire band back then and David Bowie is so fascinating and fantastic.

“I like gay men more than I like straight men. Not romantically but in general. They are more fun to be around and more fun to dance with. We share common ideas of irreverence.

“Really, most gay men I’ve met are just trying to have a good time and are not hating on my lifestyle, they’re not hating on my music or anything. They’re not trying to get anything off me. They’re not trying to get in my pants, which is nice to know upfront.”

Not surprisingly, Ke$ha cites her songwriter mum as the massive influence in her life.

She said: “My mom was just really aware of what I was actually going to do as a teenager because she was writing with people my age and had been writing songs since she was my age.

“She was part of the punk thing in the 80s and had always been a wild child and a musician as well. She hasn’t been oblivious to reality and what was going on in my life.

“She was realistic as opposed to being an overprotective mum and naive, which helped in the long-run. She was aware that I was going to go to parties and having fun and making out with guys, all the things teenagers do.

“She just made sure I was really smart about it. I also really liked that some of my earliest memories were watching her onstage or coming home to my house and having loads of musicians around and being encouraged to pick up any instruments I could getmy hands on.

“All these amazing old-school musicians would be playing banjo and washboard at the house when I came home from school.”

and because she has been learning her craft for years, her seemingly overnight success is anything but that.

Ke$ha said: “The success of Tik Tok was rapid. It went up the charts in a month. It was crazy but I have been working at this record for years so it doesn’t feel that it went so fast.

“I always knew this was what I wanted to do because I used to write songs with my mum for fun. I was singing before that. When I started writing, I was trying to develop a sound. In middle school, when I was 12 or 13, there was a class called rock bandwhich had an entire room dedicated to Gibson guitars. It was conducive to musicianship.

“It was an ordinary public school and was amazing. I started doing it for real when I was 15 and went on songwriting trips when I was 16.

“I went to LA when I was 17 which was when I really decided it was what I wanted to do. I dropped out of high school and wrote songs every single day.”

Tik Tok sold two million copies on download alone and kept Susan Boyle off the top spot in the US Billboard Hot 100.

After nine weeks at the top, Ke$ha even held off the star- studded We Are The World 25 For Haiti charity single, which featured such luminaires as Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, as well as rapper Kanye West.

She admitted: “I feel kind of bad. People act like I did this personally to Susan Boyle and all of Haiti.

“Susan Boyle had six weeks at the top of the charts, so it was just my turn. I haven’t heard her record and I don’t watch TV. I know she was on a TV show but I didn’t watch it.

“I think it is amazing that she was such a massive success having been laughed at, only to come out with such an amazing voice.

“And I can take Kanye. The whole Daily Taylor Swift thing was a disaster.” Ke$ha insists the new wave of hot, female singers are showing the traditionally male rock scene how it should be done.

She said: “The chicks are killing it right now. I think it is cool to be part of this strong women movement, with us taking over in what has been a male-dominated society for so long.

“I think it’s cool that people are accepting my music, which is really sassy, as well as the Beyonces and Lily Allens and Gagas of the world.”

there is one exception, however. She is unimpressed by Britney Spears’s miming on her world tour.

Ke$ha, who featured on Britney’s track Lace And Leather, whispered: “I think that’s bulls***.

“I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.

“If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing. I would never do that to my fans.

“No offence to her specifically but people have asked me before to mime. I have been up at three in the morning for a television show with jet lag but I refuse to mime.

“It’s treating people as if they are too stupid to realise you are not actually singing. Sometimes it is hard to sing and dance at the same time but I would rather be off and be real and genuine about it to my fans. I don’t want to treat my fans likethey are stupid.

“That is my take on my fans and life in general. My whole record is super-honest. I am really honest. When I am singing I may sound s*** sometimes but at least you’ll know I’m singing.”

PopCrunch’s Hottest 100 Women of 2010!
March 3rd, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles, Charts

PopCrunch has posted their 100 Hottest Women of 2010, and Ke$ha, obviously, made the list! She is ranked at #76 and has beaten a lot of other stars including Jennifer Aninston, Kiera Knightly, Ashley Tisdale, Katherine Heigl and many more. Check out the small text the website has written about Ke$ha below:

Who is she? A California girl just trying to make it in the music business

Why Ke$ha made the list: You may recognize her voice from the Flo rida smash hit “Right Round’ but Ke$ha didn’t see a penny from her voice being blasted all over Top 40 radio. But she’s battled back, with her first single “Tik Tok”, which went to number 1 in 4 different countries. The singer-songwriter has also had music featured on MTVs The Hills and My Super Sweet 16. Ke$ha’s debut album, Animal, is due out in early January 2010.

Congrats!

DigitalSpy Interview
March 1st, 2010 ♥ Posted by ♥ Posted in Articles, Interviews

“The party don’t start ’til I walk in,” Ke$ha informed us on her debut single. Three months on and the party’s still raging swing for pop’s most brazen newcomer. After a nine-week reign at the top of the US chart, during which she held the Haiti crew off the No.1 spot, she’s now back with 3OH!3 collab ‘Blah Blah Blah’. Armed with a bottle of Jack, we paid her a visit to talk cheesy chat-up lines, those Uffie comparisons, and.. well, to have some “f**k off-good fun”!

You’ve had a mad few months. How are you coping with it all?
“The last eight months of my life have been pretty insane. I don’t think you can really be a total party animal and be number one. You have to pace yourself a bit. There’s been lots of flying and lots of different time zones, but jetlag is really the only negative thing about this. Jetlag is retarded!”

How did you celebrate the success of ‘TiK ToK’?
“There wasn’t a specific thing I did to celebrate, but I did treat my mum by taking her to a spa. I’m not really a big spender so I didn’t do anything outrageous. I’m just down to have a good time and I want people to have fun. People get so pretentious about pop music so I do feel like I’m fighting this battle. My record is honest and fun. It’s a celebration of youth and life and going out and getting crazy. I’m about non-pretentious irreverence and f**k off good fun!”

What sort of chart position are you hoping for with ‘Blah Blah Blah’?
“Obviously I hope it goes to number one, but who knows what’s going to happen? I just hope people like it. It’s a cool song about a woman talking to a man the way men always speak to women. If you listen to any rap or pop station, the way men talk to women is just so cheeky and a little bit degrading. I’m not offended by it though – I just think it’s funny. This track is meant sarcastically. It’s me throwing it back.”

What’s the inspiration behind the video?
“Well, it’s a funny video to go with a funny song. It’s set at a bar/bowling alley and all these dudes are trying to hit on me, but I’m just like, ‘Really? You’re so annoying!’ Some guys ask you what your middle name is as if that’s really going to help their chances! Their lines are lame.”

So what is a good chat-up line?
“I heard a good one the other day: ‘Did you just fart? Because you blew me away!’ It’s great, but horrible.”

Have you thought about the third single from the album?
“If I could pick any song on the record, I’d want it to be ‘Stephen’, but I think we’re going for either ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ or ‘Take It Off’. ‘Stephen’ and Animal’ are my two favourites on the album though. ‘Stephen’ shows the vulnerable side of me but it’s still a funny pop song. It’s me saying I’m totally obsessive and in love with this guy, but he’s blowing me off in a pretty funny way. I like ‘Animal’ because it’s one of the last songs I wrote for the record and it just embodies everything I think about humans – it’s my take on human beings as an animal.”

A lot of fans are comparing your music to Uffie’s. In fact, the beginning of ‘TiK ToK’ sounds remarkably similar to ‘Tthhee Ppaarrttyy’ by Justice and Uffie…
“I’ve never heard the song, so I don’t really know, but people are comparing me because they have a very one-dimensional view of who I am. You know, I only have two songs out right now. When people have a better understanding of who I am, what I stand for, what I look like and what my shows are like, I think that’s going to dispel the comparisons.”

I have the track here. Would you like a listen?
“Ooh I like that song! I don’t see the similarity though. I understand that we’re both white girls, but we’re so different in lots of ways. People compared my s**t to ‘Pop The Glock’ by Uffie the other day and I just don’t hear it. Am I crazy? I don’t hear it!”

You were at the Brits earlier this month. What did you think of the performances?
“I’m such a fan of Lily Allen – I think she’s so sweet! Who else? Well, Dizzee Rascal with Florence, that was amazing! Cheryl Cole gave a really good performance too, but you can really tell when someone’s not singing live. It’s a shame.”

Are you expecting to be nominated next year?
“I’m not expecting to be but it would be badass! It would be such an honour – it’s like the Grammys for the UK. I’m definitely up for performing there. I’d just love to be on that stage, you know? I’d even sweep up the glitter afterwards!”

‘Blah Blah Blah’ by Ke$ha is out now.

John Mayer ‘won over by Ke$ha’
March 1st, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles

John Mayer has reportedly revealed that he is a fan of Ke$ha, joking that he has been “won over” by her “tricks and charms”.

The ‘Your Body Is A Wonderland’ singer wrote a message to Ke$ha on his Twitter account, praising her hit single ‘Tik Tok’, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks.

“You have won me over with your tricks and charms and I must tell you I really like your song,” he wrote.

“Though I must add I tried brushing with a bottle of Jack and I chipped a tooth on the glass. Where might I remit an invoice?”

He added: “Stop telling your friends you detest the Ke$ha song and then dancing to it at home. How about some accountability people? How can you watch Jersey Shore for nine hours and then act like you only listen to Beethoven’s fifth? Okay. Point made. Night.”

Ke$ha later responded on her own Twitter page – quoting her new track ‘Blah Blah Blah’ – writing: “dear john mayerrr. Don’t be a little b*tch wit ur chit chat. Jus $how me whur ur d**k’s at. x”

Ke$ha, Drake Join Paramore, Weezer At Bamboozle
February 28th, 2010 ♥ Posted by ♥ Posted in Articles

Ke$ha and Drake are the latest artists added to the lineup for Bamboozle this spring at New Jersey’s Meadowlands Sports Complex. The rookie all-stars join Bamboozle vets like Paramore and fan favorites Weezer at the two-day festival in May, according to its Web site.

Drake is set to perform on May 1, while Ke$ha is lined up to play on both May 1 and 2. Motion City Soundtrack, 88 Keys, Wale and “Gossip Girl” star Taylor Momsen’s the Pretty Reckless were also recently confirmed to play the annual festival. These acts join already announced performances by Angels & Airwaves, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, OK Go and Say Anything.

Ke$ha has been all over the place in the last few months since her song “Tik Tok” started hitting the top of the charts and her debut album Animal knocked Susan Boyle from her #1 spot on the Billboard 200. In addition to Bamboozle, she’s also performing at the revived Lilith Fair this summer.

“I definitely will bring the glitter, and I think I can also bring a youthful fun, like a strong woman but in just a kind of a fun way to Lilith,” Ke$ha told MTV News of joining the girl-powered fest, which will also include founder Sarah McLachlan, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Colbie Caillat and Corinne Bailey Rae. “I think I’m on Lilith because it’s famous for standing for women and strong women, and I’m really excited and honored to be in that group and classified as a strong female woman.”

Ke$ha has eyes on British guys [+PICS FROM THE NME AWARDS]
February 26th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles, Interviews, Pictures

WILD child KE$HA has set her sights on the Brits. Not the awards, the FELLAS.

I bet the staff backstage think they’ve got the best job in the world.

The American singer had blokes on her mind at the Shockwaves NME AwardsKASABIAN‘s TOM MEIGHAN, in particular.

She said: “I met him backstage and he’s hot. You guys have a lot of hot babes over here.”

She also gave RICKY GERVAIS a nod. She said: “That fat guy who’s in The Office. I’d hit that.”

Ke$ha went down a storm at the 02 Brixton Academy bash – no surprise given the size of her frock.

She put in a good stint despite having to be up early yesterday to fly to Europe for a load of gigs – which sound like a messy affair considering her pre-show ritual.

She explained: “Me and my band get naked, lather ourselves with baby oil then roll in glitter.

“We do it before every gig.”

KESHA GOES WILD WITH ANIMALS IN LONDON
February 24th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles, Interviews

Via DailyStar.co.uk:

HOWLING wild Ke$ha unleashed a cage full of flamboyant animals on stage in London.

LA glamourpuss Kesha, 22, dressed up as a slinky zebra.
And bandmates, transvestites and extravagant fans joined in the fancy dress zoo theme as the chart-topping singer celebrated her favourite city.
Ahead of her humdinger of a MySpace Secret Show Ke$ha told me: “Don’t tell America but the UK fans are the best. I’m throwing a huge animal party, performance and life should be about having fun and I embrace that message all the time.“I hope I’m still on stage with these animals when I’m 45. I prefer the animals to humans.”
And she thinks our homegrown music is great as well.
“I went to the BRITs and loved Florence & The Machine and Dizzee,” she added with a wink. “And I want to take all the Kasabian guys home.”
Ke$ha’s debut single Tik Tok has been No 1 for a staggering nine weeks back in the US.
And she makes no apologies for keeping all-star Haiti charity single We Are The World off the top along the way.  She sighed: “We Are The World is still No 2 and still making a lot of money.

“I’m not doing anything apart from playing shows and rocking with my cock out.
“I gave to the Haiti relief as well so no-one can hate on me.”

But future suitors had better watch out, Ke$ha won’t put up with the sort of behaviour Cheryl Cole, 26, had to deal with from her hubby Ashley, 29.
“I saw the pictures of him in his pants. If someone did that to me I would stab him in his dick.”

Watch out Ashley.

Vivenne Westwood
February 22nd, 2010 ♥ Posted by ♥ Posted in Articles

A few rows down was Ke$ha, who has been blitzing the U.K. media on a publicity push. But she’s not the biggest fashion fan: She once got sick all over Paris Hilton’s closet at a party and said it was the clothing that nauseated her. Today she clarified: “It’s not that clothes make me sick. Having good style and fashion doesn’t bother me. It’s just that there are certain lifestyles that have been glorified that are a little wasteful and in a climate where a lot of people are less-than-wealthy I think it’s gross to flaunt it.” (We felt it distasteful at this point to mention that the she spells her name with a dollar sign or that she’d just finished showing us how she got a diamond embedded in her tooth enamel.)

Westwood’s show began with three models who wore Haiti T-shirts over their looks, which Ke$ha, who says she gave money to Haiti, dug. “I think it’s an amazing thing that she can incorporate that. When you are successful, with more money does come responsibilities.” Ke$ha’s even up for doing a charity single. “I haven’t been approached to do that,” she says, “but I wouldn’t be opposed to help in any way I can.”
