“I really want, like, when people come to my show, I want them to kind of be like, ‘Wow, I just went to like, this like, party’ not like a musical show where you sit down and watch. I want people to feel involved. Um…and hopefully leave covered in sweat and glitter, and maybe beer and, you know, hopefully on a mission to get laid afterwards. I hope I can inspire people to want to get laid.”

Ke$ha, who scored a breakout hit with her party anthem “TiK ToK,” now apparently wants to be taken seriously. The singer, who is one of the year’s top-selling artists and arguably the most successful newcomer, obviously has a party-girl image… but she says that’s not really the truth.

The 23-year-old told Yahoo! that she has been misrepresented and actually is a responsible, hard-working person who is not out at nightclubs getting drunk or doing drugs with no underwear.

“People say ‘party girl’ and instantly you think: DUI, drug problem, (privates) out, no underwear, going to nightclubs every night. Problem. I’m none of the above.”

Ke$ha wants to be more than pop’s party girl
June 30th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles

NEW YORK (AP) — Ke$ha, who burst on the scene with the drunken party anthem “TiK ToK,” wants you to take her seriously.

Seriously.

The pop singer, who is one of the year’s top-selling artists and arguably the most successful newcomer, hasn’t been recognized for her artistic talents. Instead, she’s been bashed for what some see as her vapid lyrical content and party-girl vibe.

But the 23-year-old thinks she has been misrepresented.

“I’m responsible. I wouldn’t have a No. 1 record or song if I wasn’t a hardworking person,” she said in a recent interview backstage before a festival performance.

“People say ‘party girl’ and instantly you think: DUI, drug problem, (privates) out, no underwear, going to nightclubs every night. Problem. I’m none of the above,” she continued.

Ke$ha’s not interested in controlling the public’s opinion of her, in any case. She’s hard at work on where her career is going. And — like her or not — her career is heading in a promising direction.

Her debut song, “TiK ToK,” shot straight to No. 1 in the United States, where it sat on top for nine consecutive weeks. Her album “Animal” hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts as well; it’s sold about 785,000 units since its January release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album’s second single, “Blah Blah Blah,” was also a Top 10 track while the current radio hit, “Your Love Is My Drug,” peaked at No. 4. She was featured on Flo Rida’s monster hit, the No. 1 tune “Right Round” and appears on 3OH!3′s Top 10 jam “My First Kiss.” She co-wrote every song on “Animal” and has also written for Miley Cyrus and Miranda Cosgrove. And her North American summer tour with Rihanna is set to kick off July 4 in Vancouver.

But while many music fans have appreciated her music, critics have not been adoring. The Los Angeles Times, while giving credit to her act, had this description of her: “Ke$ha comes on like a well-worn worst nightmare, her manicure chewed and her morals thoroughly compromised,” adding that the singer “offers a thoroughly fleshed-out character to embrace or despise.”

And the Boston Globe slammed “Animal” and Ke$ha, saying: “Like the sound Ke$ha’s hit single references, you can almost hear the clock counting down her 15 minutes of fame. Tick, tock.”

Ke$ha, who’s called her personal style “garbage chic,” can usually be seen wearing her hair like she just came back from an all-nighter, with ripped clothes to match.

“It’s not all about fancy clothes, it’s not all about expensive shoes, it’s not about always having every body part hanging out, it’s not about wearing cake-on makeup,” she said, wearing a Budweiser T-shirt she “bought five years ago at the thrift store for $2″ and jean shorts.

On “TiK ToK,” she jokes that she brushes her teeth with Jack Daniels and on “Party At a Rich Dude’s House,” Ke$ha says that she threw up in the closet (in real life, it wasn’t a dude’s house, but Paris Hilton’s closet where she vomited).

“I get it,” Ke$ha responds about the concern of some of her lyrics. “But it is a joke and I’m nobody’s parent.”

“There are things that are said on television that are way more dramatizing like violence and sex and a lot of things need to be explained in a grown-up world to little kids. I hope none of them go around drinking Jack Daniels for breakfast,” she added.

Though Ke$ha is unapologetic about her image, she admits she’s not always able to dismiss the negative attention: “It can bum you out when your intentions aren’t, like, translated properly.”

Sharon Dastur, the program director at New York City’s top pop radio station Z100, says now that Ke$ha’s produced more hits, people are giving her chance, and seeing her done up nicely helps them get past her sometimes sloppy demeanor.

“People go, ‘OK, she’s not the girl with the hair in her face with the glitter with the Jack Daniels bottle in her hand. She cleans up nice,’” Dastur said. “She’s just evolving as her music continues to come out.”

The singer, born Kesha Rose Sebert, grew up in Nashville, Tenn., with her mother Pebe, a songwriter who co-wrote Dolly Parton’s “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You”; Pebe also has writing credits on three songs on Ke$ha’s album. Dr. Luke, the mega-hitmaker who executive produced “Animal,” met Ke$ha when she was 17 and let her sing background to songs he produced for Hilton and Britney Spears.

Ke$ha hopes fans will take away from her story a message about realizing your dreams, instead of drinking tips.

“People told me, ‘You shouldn’t be singing,’” she said. “I went through awkward, chubby, total weirdo phases. I was in a marching band. Did you ever think a little, (expletive) chubby, awkward girl with braces in the marching band would be No. 1 on top of the pop charts? No, you wouldn’t.”

Ke$ha overcame doubters then — and she plans to do it again.

“People will start to respect me as a writer,” she said. “Look at the charts, honey. … As annoying as you think I am, I’m not going anywhere, so you might as well get used to it.”

3OH!3 Talk Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Andrew W.K. And More
June 30th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles, Videos

The boys of 3OH!3 keep it pretty simple in their music. Their songs rock like Def Lep, rap like Run-D.M.C. and have beats even the most “Jersey Shore” phobic among us could beat up. But what about the men behind the music? Well, you’ve come to the right place, it’s the Buzzworthy exclusive Q&A with Boulder’s baddest, 3OH!3.

In this chat, Nathaniel and Sean talk about working with both Katy Perry and Ke$ha and how the two new-pop queens differ. They mention a meeting of the celebratory minds between themselves and Andrew W.K. And they also give some details about the Boulder dance scene and how it shaped them and their music.

Check out the Q&A, as well as 3OH!3′s video for its new single, “My First Kiss,” taken from its new album, Streets Of Gold, which came out today.

Ke$ha wants Nova’s Tom Ivey
June 30th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles

Serial trashbag Ke$ha is desperate to date Nova producer Tom Ivey, after admitting a fetish for Russell Brand look-a-likes.

The outspoken singer recently revealed her left-of-centre taste in men to This Is London.

“I could not bear to go out with a guy who takes longer than me to get ready. I don’t want someone who’s going to steal my moisturiser,” she explained while describing her perfect man.

“My ideal man would be funny and fat with a beard. I love fat men. I like real men… I like a funny man, though. Russell Brand’s not quite my type, but if he had a fat, bearded friend, that would be perfect.”

Funnily enough, Nova has just the bloke for her.

Ryan, Monty and Wippa producer Tom Ivey is regularly mistaken for Russell Brand and even received lessons on how to be more Brand-like from the man himself!

Check out the video here.

And Tom told us he’d be into the love match: “I would date Ke$ha because it means I wouldn’t have to watch my weight any longer.”

We can hear the wedding bells now!

KE$HA loves fat men.
June 29th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles

The Blah Blah Blah singer — who is currently single — admits she has a less-than-traditional taste in men and can’t stand the thought of dating someone too well-groomed.

“My ideal man would be funny and fat with a beard. I love fat men. I like real men,” she said. “I don’t like really feminine men who tan. I don’t understand that. I like a funny man, though.
“Russell Brand’s not quite my type, but if he had a fat, bearded friend, that would be perfect.”

The outspoken 23-year-old star also admitted her biggest turn off would be to date someone who spends longer in the bathroom than she does.

“I could not bear to go out with a guy who takes longer than me to get ready. I don’t want someone who’s going to steal my moisturizer,” she said.

Though she has a lengthy list of specifications for a partner, the star insists she isn’t ready to settle down just yet.

“I’m far from lonely. Far, far from it. But I don’t want to settle down yet,” she said. “Gross!”

How Ke$ha tik-tokked her way to the top.
June 25th, 2010 ♥ Posted by Chloe ♥ Posted in Articles

“I’m lying in bed naked,” whispers Kesha over the phone. Though it’s an intriguing image, she manages to come off less like a Mariah Carey-style sex kitten and more in the vein of a Jack Black-type, rubbing his nipples and licking his lips. When someone chooses to change the “s” in her name to a dollar sign, it’s really hard to take much that she does thereafter seriously. Imagine if Joanna New$om or Regina $pektor had made that little alteration. Fortunately, the oft glittered and feathered 23-year-old Kesha Sebert, whose irreverent party anthem “Tik Tok” has been inescapable over the course of 2010, is in on the joke. “I’m writing songs about brushing my teeth with Jack Daniels. It doesn’t have to be so serious all the time — especially with pop music. I don’t take myself very seriously. I don’t think I should or could,” she explains from her hotel room in New York City, which incidentally has “very nice sheets.”

The music business, however, is taking Ke$ha seriously. This summer, she’s headed on the road with Rihanna, making a stop on the Lilith Fair revival tour in Salt Lake City. Her debut album, Animal, released in January, has sold almost 800 million records. At this point, it feels like we emerged from the womb knowing the lyrics to “Tik Tok,” but it’s only been a mere six months since the song debuted on iTunes. And recently she went where no other body suit-wearing poplet — or anyone else for that matter — has gone before: “Tik Tok” was the first song to replace The Simpsons theme on an episode that aired this past May. The television institution had the residents of Springfield lip-syncing her ubiquitous single during the show’s opening credits (Ralph gets a pedicure on his toes toes, and guess what Groundskeeper Willy’s brushing his teeth with…), sending many Simpsons purists into a tizzy.

What’s incredible about Ke$ha is that she makes it all seem so damn easy: run around in cutoffs; half-sing, half-rap about your previous evening’s drunken exploits; film a video while driving your gold TransAm with your best friend, Simon Rex; and ride the Top-40 train right out of your hometown of Nashville to Hollywood. Maybe it seems easy because for her, it is. The girl got a 1500 on her SATs and was well on her way to the Ivy League before she got a call at age 17 from hit-making producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin (they made superstars out of Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry). As she recalls, the conversation went something like this: “They were like ‘Hey, wanna be a pop star?’ And I was like, ‘Hell, yeah!’”

It’s the ultimate rags-to-pop star story. While living in Nashville, scraping by on welfare, she recorded a “very poor quality” demo with her mom, a country singer. (She doesn’t know who her father is and is in “no rush” to find out.) Her mom gave the demo to some friends who worked at BMI, who subsequently passed it on to Luke and Martin. They liked what they heard. “There was some acoustic stuff that really showed off my voice, and I wrote everything back then, as well,” Ke$ha explains. So Luke encouraged her to come out to L.A. where in place of college, she learned the ups and downs of making pop music. As the story goes, in late 2008 Ke$ha found herself in the studio with Dr. Luke, next door to Flo Rida, who was recording his single “Right Round.” She ended up guesting on the track, which became a mega-hit, although she didn’t receive a dime. But no good deed goes unnoticed, even in the music world. The hook put her on the map and ultimately landed her a multi-album deal with RCA.

Unlike many of her contemporaries (and no, we’re not naming names), Ke$ha at her core is a smarty-pants. The former band-geek, who as a high-schooler audited history classes at her town’s local college, compares writing songs to solving math problems. “When you write a really good pop song, you get this feeling of euphoria. When you’re solving a math equation, it’s the same feeling. Swear to God.” That’s not to say you need a degree in rocket science to relate to her record. Listening to the 14 songs on Animal is like scrolling through a 20-something’s Gchat chain. And that’s because everything Ke$ha writes about is either inspired by her own experiences or those of her friends. “No names have been changed and no details have been spared,” she says. follows most closely the relationship she had with her ex-boyfriend of four years, who “stomped on” her heart, resulting in lyrics that are sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes silly and always personal. They’re about backstabbing bitches, creepy guys at bars and cute guys with beards. (“When I have my own country, it will be a requirement for all men to have beards,” she says.)

So is she dating anyone now? “Are you kidding?” she exclaims. Since Animal’s release, she’s been way too busy filming videos for her last two singles (“Blah, Blah, Blah” and “Your Love Is My Drug”) and performing on Saturday Night Live and American Idol to even think about dating. The guy “would have to be pretty fuckin’ magical” to be able to fit into her hectic schedule, she says. Especially this summer. She’s understandably a bit nervous about her upcoming tour (especially after her much lambasted SNL performance). “I’m a little brand new at this game,” she says. “There are a lot of critics out there, and I just hope that they are gentle and realize that I’ve only been in this game for a few months. Like, it’s really crazy how fast it happened.”

When the newfound fame gets to be a little much (as when a joke she made about pushing the pre-pubescent pop star Justin Bieber in a baby carriage turns into headline news — not to mention her subsequent apology via Twitter), she avoids turning into “a self-consumed douchebag” by calling her mother. “I talk to my mom every day,” she says. She also turns to her older brother Lagan, a documentary filmmaker and Huffington Post reporter, for regular reality checks. “Anytime I’m stressed about anything, across the board, he’s like, ‘Well, let me tell you what’s happening overseas.’ There’s so much more happening than what’s going on in my life.”

And when things really get overwhelming, she sits down with an issue of National Geographic or The Origins of the Universe. “Anytime you think about yourself for too long, you start going crazy, so I try to read about animals and the planets.” That’s one of the reasons she named her album Animal. Keeping in touch with the natural world helps her to stay grounded. Or not… If the whole music thing doesn’t work out, she has her sights set on outer space. “I just want to make badass music and I can’t worry about it more than that,” she says. “If people like it, they like it, and if they don’t, I can go be an astronaut. So there.” Excuse us while we warn NASA of the imminent invasion of aliens with Jack Daniels on their breath.
