Ke$ha may have to forgo the beer for champagne on Saturday. The annual music industry bash hosted by long-time exec and star-maker Clive Davis has booked the rising RCA dance party girl for that night’s annual fete at the Beverly Hilton. Other performers at the VIP event include a couple of Davis party vets: crooner Harry Connick Jr. and guitar god Carlos Santana. Last year, the Davis party became an officially sanctioned Recording Academy event. Long seen as one of the industry’s most in-demand pre-Grammy events, the bash won a rep for showcasing artists that would receive a mega major label push for Davis’ Sony-affiliated labels. R&B belter Alicia Keys and British songstress Leona Lewis are among the artists who have had well-buzzed performances at the party. Ke$ha won’t necessarily need any more hype. Her “TiK ToK” has sold close to 3.2 million digital downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and the accompanying album “Animal” has moved 254,000 copies since its release this month. Others on tap to perform include R&B singer Jennifer Hudson and Matchbox Twenty leader Rob Thomas. Expect most of Hollywood to be in attendance, but those definitely on the RSVP list include Taylor Swift, Chace Crawford, Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi and Prince. Check back to Pop & Hiss on Sunday for Ann Powers’ coverage of the event. The Davis party in 2009 featured the return of Whitney Houston, but the music was overshadowed by the more tragic events that occurred after the bash. It was on the way home from the party the R&B star Chris Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna. What are your thoughts? Talk about it at BlahMB |
